What I read
When I had finished my busy works,I spent a lot of time for reading a journal on BBC Future called #LikeMinded by Sophia Smith Galer. As you can see in http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20180105-likeminded-a-new-series-on-social-media-and-mental-health.In this academic work states a strong issue that individual should rethink about using social media. Also,I would like to ask readers that "Is it making us any happier?".What it says
The journal outlines that social media effected on human's psychological health. This is because people can simply retrieve to each other's problems or negative circumstances around the world from social medias. Also, individuals can usually show a lifestyle on its which would be envied by any others.Additionally, there is an untimely research indicates that social media usage is related with symptoms of depression, anxiety and loneliness in some people. Moreover,in this season there are many investigations about the impacts of social media on mental health. And,many journals had written for leading readers to rethink about how to use appropriately social media. My response
Although, social medias create many advantages for my academic works, there are disadvantages for my mental health. This is because when I spent a lot of time for accessing social media connecting,I felt anxious, jealous, and bad emotions.Firstly,I felt anxious when reading Thailand politics news in social medias. For instant,as I trust in democratic system,so I do distrust the Thai military government. Also,I always so felt stress when I have known that the current government had punished the students who are the political activists.I think that the government is destroying the fundamental of individual rights.I believe that citizens should have the right to choose own government and the right to have free speech. From this result, knowing political news in social connection brings anxious mind to me.
Secondly,I felt a twinge of envy for the people on social medias. Someday I had many trouble from poverty or disheartening. And I accessed social medias. I had seen several people's happiness.I felt jealous them. This is because I also wanted to be happy too.Reality, accessing social medias may lead people to compare their life with others.Sometimes, when they have seen another's well-being life, they may be jealous in their mind. Thus, social medias cause jealous mind that makes an immoral personality.
Lastly, social medias relate to unfavorable emotions.Obviously,I easily enter social medias in smartphone around 2-4 hours all days.Sometimes, I had known all negative emotions from others which they had posted on social medias. So, It might harm my good emotion and bring a lot of ้hatred to my mind. For example I always felt angry when someone posted a discriminated speech on Facebook. Thus, social medias make me hurtful mind.
In conclusion,I present three wickedness of using social medias which can cause my mental health.Importantly, I will manage my times to appropriately access social medias in order to cure my mental health.
Although I think the article raises important questions, I would want to see some solid statistics before believing that social media is more harmful than traditional media, or more harmful than simply being in a traditional schoolyard of status obsessed children cruelly bullying the poor and unattractive.
ReplyDeleteI think social media is great, but then, I might be a bit abnormal. After several years on it, I have exactly 28 Facebook friends at the moment - they are all relatives of friends. But I use Facebook daily, mainly the messenger, which is a great tool for staying in touch. I remember the bad old days of 15 years ago and more: if you were meeting someone, you had to make definite arrangements, and hope they would be there when you arrived on time. Today, it's simple to send a quick photo or message to show that you are on time, or that you will be 4 minutes late or to make a last minute change: "Let's eat at Fuji instead?"
I'm sure that there are people who have problems, but does research show that those problems are caused by social media use, or would they have had similar problems before social media? I know that when I was in school, everyone worried about how they looked compared to everyone else, some of us more than others. Perhaps social media worsens this, but I'm not convinced yet.
I am certain that this is not a good reason for interfering governments to start making up more bad laws to control what adults do on social media - there are already too many morally bad laws doing that.
Reading it again, I really the way Paul relates the ideas in the reading to his own life and experiences. It shows a strong understanding of the issues in the reading, and helps clarify them for his readers. And I have to agree with his ideas about anti-democratic governments making up corrupt laws to help themselves. Again, the connection with the ideas in the article shows strong reading skills in addition to communicating effectively in written English.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read my article again,I could agree with you.Lacking of some solid statistics might be a weakness of my writing.I will try to find its to support my ideas for creating a credibility of sender.I would like you to critique my writing as well.I am ready to practice more for getting more understanding in English skills.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinions, social connections have also advantages.I will present values of social media in the next article.
I would like to thank you for your kind support.
Nowadays, social media is an integral part of many people lives in the World. Social media have many advantages for example, it helps us connect to other people, do a business promotion and learning online courses via facebook, twitter or youtube but they are also have many disadvantages for example ,if we spending too much time on social media, it can cause mental and health problem. I think I am addicted to social media like other teenagers because I spending a lot of time chatting with my friends on social media. However I try to manage my time spent on social media and get new hobbies which are interesting than using social media.
ReplyDeleteYou got a great idea . There're advantages and disadvantages of social media. For advantages, social media make people happier for example we can keep in touch with friend and know how their life're going .Social media leads you get some knowledge or data conveniently. Moreover, it helps you to learn people's attitude and opinion. So, I think social media is quite great and useful for people. I'm also agree with your'idea that social media might make people feel bad and sad such as cyberbullying , reputation or hacking. So, when i'm go on social media , I tell myself that it's not the real life. They're all selective of what we put on social media. I practice myself to ignore the bad attitude and try to focus on things that might be benefit in future.
ReplyDeleteFern's comment that "it's not real life" made me think. Is this right? I mean, is our social interaction on social media really less real in some way than face to face social interaction?
DeleteLike others who have shared their ideas, I can see two sides of this. When I'm on the BTS, it is amazing how many people are intently staring at their phones – I sometimes do quick counts and it's usually 80% or higher. But is this bad? And is it even that different to what earlier generations did when they read newspapers and books (of the chunky paper type) on their daily commutes to and from work or school?
At least Facebook addiction is saving trees as it puts postal workers out of work.
